Koning Charles III heeft een paar problemen om aan te pakken

By Ninian Carter

September 12, 2022 - The UK’s newly anointed King Charles III has a few issues to tackle, including a brother tarnished by sex abuse allegations and a son who criticises Buckingham Palace for racism.

Issues requiring the attention of King Charles III:

Charles’s younger brother retires from royal duties in 2019 after TV interview – in which he had hoped to clear his name over associations with U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – goes badly wrong.

King must decide how to deal with Andrew, officially still titled Duke of York.

Since leaving UK for life in Hollywood hills with his American former actress wife, Meghan Markle, Harry has, among barrage of criticisms, accused unnamed royal of racism.

In his first UK public address as king, Charles signals desire to thaw relations.

In 2021, Prince’s Foundation charity becomes embroiled in cash-for-honours scandal involving Saudi businessman, which leads to police investigation and resignation of CEO Michael Fawcett (pictured in 2005). Charles’s office denies any wrongdoing.

In 2022, newspapers claim Charles accepted €3 million in cash from former Qatari prime minister, and other monies from family of Osama bin Laden

Charles is now not only monarch of UK, but also of 14 additional countries – known as Commonwealth realms (as distinct from Commonwealth of Nations). In 2021, Barbados quit monarchy and, with Queen dead, acceleration by other nations to become republics could be imminent. Antigua and Barbuda has announced plans to hold referendum on becoming republic within three years
