NASA lanceert eerste Artemis-missie

By Jordi Bou

August 29, 2022 - NASA is expected to launch Artemis I mission, the first step in the space agency’s plan to send humans back to the lunar surface for the first time in over five decades.

Artemis 1 will mark the debut of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) megarocket, which will send an uncrewed Orion capsule to lunar orbit. Orion will spend six weeks in space, finally returning to Earth in an ocean splashdown on Oct 10.

If successful, Artemis II is scheduled to blast-off in May 2024, with a crew of four astronauts, on a lunar-flyby-return-to-Earth test mission.

Assuming success of Artemis II, Artemis III is set to land two people on the Moon in 2025, and keep them there for a week – making it the the first human moon landing since Apollo 17 in 1972 (53 years ago).
