Situatie Oekraïne dag 170

By Phil Bainbridge

August 11, 2022 - Explosions at Zyabrovka military airfield in Belarus, some 30km from the Ukrainian border and host to a Russian unit including Grave Stone radar and S-400 missile defence systems, have been attributed to an engine on fire.

Following the loss of at least 8 Russian aircraft in explosions at Saky airbase in Crimea, also attributed to a fire by officials, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak warned Russian troops of an “epidemic of technical accidents”.

The destruction at the Crimean airbase suggests Ukraine may have acquired new long-range capabilities, beyond the range of the weapons the west has so far acknowledged sending to the country. However, referencing officials who have claimed Ukrainian responsibility for the attack, President Zelenskiy admonished officials to stop talking too much to reporters about Kyiv’s military tactics.

Meanwhile, the UN has called for a demilitarised zone around Zaporizhya nuclear power plant as shelling continued, warning of “catastrophic consequences”.
