Laagste Antarctisch zee-ijs in juli ooit

By Phil Bainbridge

August 10, 2022 - The extent of Antarctic sea ice reached its lowest level in July since
records began 44 years ago, 7% lower and around 1.1 million sq km less than the 1991-2020 average.

The European Copernicus Climate Change Service found that Antarctic sea ice extent reached 15.3 million sq km, down from the July average of 16.5 million sq km. Meanwhile, Arctic sea ice was 4% lower than the average.

While climate change makes extreme heat and drought more likely, the 2021 July figure was above average, underscoring the great annual variability in Antarctic sea ice.
