Situatie Oekraïne – dag 146

By Duncan Mil

July 19, 2022 - Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu met with the Eastern group of forces commander, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, on Monday (July 18, 2022), ordering him to focus on seizing Siversk, Bakhmut and eventually Slovyansk. Shoigu also directs the notorious “Vostok” group to prioritize the destruction of Ukraine’s U.S.-supplied long-range missiles and artillery systems.

Ukraine’s top military commander, General Valery Zaluzhny, has credited U.S. precision-guided High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) with helping to “stabilize the situation” through “major strikes at enemy command points, ammunition and fuel storage warehouses.”

In Mykolaiv, Russia deployed cluster bombs against civilian homes, the city’s mayor Oleksandr Senkevich said in a social media post. At the same time, a missile strike burnt houses in Odesa.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces continued carrying out air, artillery, and missile strikes on civilian and military infrastructure in Kharkiv city and surrounding settlements. The Ukrainian Main Military Directorate (GUR) reported that its “Cedar” reconnaissance unit conducted a successful counteroffensive that pushed “a large unit” of Russian forces out of Dementiivka.

President Vladimir Putin’s effort to integrate occupied areas into the Russian economy has resulted in Russian-owned “State Grain Company” exporting up to 100,000 tonnes of stolen Ukrainian grain every month from Zaporizhia Oblast to Egypt, Turkey, and the Middle East, according to the Ukrainian Resistance Centre.
