British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is struggling to maintain a grip on power as Conservative Party ministers and aides continue to quit his Government in protest at his leadership.
In less than 24 hours, Prime Minister Johnson has seen fifteen resignations, including two Cabinet members, Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid, who quit as finance minister and health secretary, respectively.
The departures started late Tuesday afternoon (July 5, 2022), with Javid quitting just after 6 o’clock (17:00 GMT). Sunak’s resignation letter followed just nine minutes later.
The trigger for the resignations was the revelation that Johnson knew Chris Pincher, who resigned as deputy chief whip amid sexual harassment allegations, had been investigated for his unacceptable behaviour but promoted him anyway.
