July 1, 2022 - Russian missiles hit an apartment building and a resort near Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa, killing at least 18 people, including two children, Ukrainian authorities said.

One missile struck a nine-story building in the town of Belgorod-Dniester at about 1am (local time) on Thursday, the Ukrainian emergencies ministry said. It also caused a fire in an attached store building.

With its ground forces concentrated in Ukraine’s eastern industrial region of Donbas, Russia has more than doubled the number of missile strikes around the country in the past two weeks, using inaccurate Soviet-era missiles for more than half of the attacks, according to a Ukrainian brigadier general.

Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, says a new “iron curtain” is descending between Russia and the west, and that Moscow would not trust Washington and Brussels “from now on”. The process “has begun”, Lavrov said after talks with his counterpart from Belarus. “As far as an iron curtain is concerned, essentially it is already descending.”
