Apple AR-VR headset misschien in 2023 in de handel

By Ninian Carter

June 24, 2022 - Apple CEO Tim Cook has set tech tongues wagging by telling an interviewer to “stay tuned” for their augmented reality offerings.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been interviewed by China Daily, where he once again commented on the future of augmented reality, but also hinted at Apple's work on a possible AR-VR headset.

Cook reiterated that Apple is excited about augmented reality, but went on to say that people should “stay tuned” to see what Apple has to offer.

Although Apple has never officially confirmed work on an AR-VR wearable device, rumours have been circulating about it for years. Cook’s latest comment seems to confirm them.

Its first headset, nicknamed “Apple View”, is expected to offer mixed reality technology (that is to say, both augmented and virtual reality experiences), with a curved visor and soft mesh that fits against the face.

It’s believed to weigh between 100 and 200 grammes – lighter than other headsets on the market – and use an Apple Watch-like strap material to hold it in place.

As for technology, it’s rumoured to feature two 4K micro-OLED displays, 15 camera modules, powerful processors equivalent to M-series chips, eye tracking capabilities, hand gesture support and spatial audio. Analysts say it is the most complicated product Apple has ever made.

The device is expected to debut in January 2023 and retail for around $3,000 – vastly more expensive than offerings from Meta, Samsung, Sony and others.
