April 18, 2022 - The 126th Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest annual marathon. The Boston race is the second major marathon of 2022, and is part of a six-race series connecting cities across the globe
The Boston Marathon started in 1897 with 15 runners. Delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is usually held in April on Patriots’ Day, which commemorates the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 at the start of the American War of Independence from Great Britain.
The World Marathon Majors comprises six races globally: London, Boston, Berlin, Chicago, New York, with Tokyo promoted to major status most recently, in 2013.
