By Jordi Bou

March 1, 2022 - March 31, 2022 - Each month Graphic News publishes a World Agenda of forthcoming events that will shape the world in the month ahead. Events in March include President Joe Biden’s first State of the Union address, presidential elections in South Korea, the Winter Paralympics in Beijing, and the 94th Academy Awards.

Mar 1, U.S.: Foreign policy is likely to dominate Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, alongside America's economic recovery from the pandemic and a successful vaccine rollout in the 79-year-old president’s first year in office.

Mar 4-13, China: Winter sports take centre stage again at the Paralympics in Beijing, where 736 athletes will take part in 78 medal events.

Mar 9, South Korea: The ruling Democratic Party’s Lee Jae-myung (left) and Yoon Suk-yeol (right) of the conservative People Power Party are the frontrunners in the presidential election.

Mar 13, Colombia: Party conferences and legislative elections could identify the favourites for May’s presidential race.

Mar 21, Mexico: Felipe Ángeles International Airport opens, 45km north of Mexico City. It is intended to take the pressure off the capital’s Benito Juarez airport, one of the busiest in Latin America.

Mar 27, U.S.: The Power of the Dog, Jane Campion’s dark 1920s-set Western, heads the field with 12 nominations and is favourite to give streaming service Netflix its first Best Picture Oscar at the 94th Academy Awards.

Mar 30, U.S.: Ax-1, the first all-private astronaut mission to the ISS, blasts off from the Kennedy Space Center with a retired NASA astronaut and three passengers aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

March, Hong Kong: The entire population of 7.5m people will have to undergo three mandatory Covid-19 tests over the course of seven days, as the territory combats its worst outbreak of the virus.
