De 14 jaar durende ontwikkeling van de film “Uncharted”

By Ninian Carter

February 10, 2022 - Uncharted, based on the popular video game series, is finally hitting cinemas after a 14-year production process plagued by delays.

Following on from the success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, the enormity of which is perhaps an industry surprise, Tom Holland is on a role. His next action adventure blockbuster is “Uncharted” – a movie based on the wildly popular PlayStation game franchise.

However, like an opening scene from one of the games, it has not all been smooth sailing. Far from it in fact.

Development first began some 14 years ago in 2008, but was hit a multitude of issues including script rewrites, departing directors and arguments over who should star as Nathan Drake – fan favourite Nathan Fillion was rejected despite making an homage – “Uncharted Live Action Fan Film”.

When filming finally did get underway in Berlin in 2020, with Tom Holland as Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his sidekick Sully (Wahlberg had originally been tipped to play the lead in 2010), it was hit by Covid-19 production shutdowns and even more exacerbating delays.

Finally, in 2022, the action adventure film opens in parts of Europe on February 10 and in the U.S. on February 18.
