Beijing 2022 Olympisch Snowboard Cross

By Ninian Carter

February 4, 2022 - February 20, 2022 - The 2022 winter Olympic Games, officially known as the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, take place in Beijing, China.

Snowboard Cross, originally known as Boardercross, became an Olympic sport in 2006, following its creation for an extreme sports TV show in 1991.

It grew in popularity following its televised appearance at the 1997 Winter X Games, and first appeared at the Winter Olympics in Torino, nine years later.

In Snowboard Cross, following timed heats, four-six competitors race down a course that includes cambered turns, various types of jumps, berms, rollers, drops, steep and flat sections designed to challenge the riders’ ability to stay in control while maintaining maximum speed.

The Beijing Games sees the introduction of Mixed Team Snowboard Cross, which allows teams of two – one man and one woman – to compete in relay races.
