By Jordi Bou

November 23, 2021 - At least 45 people, including 12 children, died as a bus carrying mostly North Macedonian tourists crashed in flames on a highway in Bulgaria.

The incident happened on a motorway at about 02:00 local time (00:00 GMT) near the village of Bosnek, south-west of the capital Sofia.

The bus was registered in North Macedonia and was carrying tourists returning from Istanbul, Turkey.

Seven people escaped from the bus and were taken to hospital with burns.

The cause of the accident was unclear but the bus appeared to have hit a highway barrier either before or after it caught fire, Bulgarian officials said.
