Oostenrijk kondigt lockdown en verplichte vaccinatie aan

By Ninian Carter

November 19, 2021 - Austria is set to enter a nationwide lockdown from November 22, and force its entire population to be vaccinated from February 1, 2022.

Just a matter of days after Austria imposed a lockdown on unvaccinated citizens, it has now announced a full national Covid-19 lockdown beginning on Monday, November 22.

Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg told the nation it would last a maximum of 20 days, and that compulsory vaccinations would begin on February 1, 2022 – making Austria the first nation in Europe to bring in such a drastic measure.

Many other European countries are imposing restrictions as cases escalate, with Austria’s neighbours Germany, Czechia and
Slovakia also reintroducing restrictions, such as early closing of bars, banning of fans at sporting events, and lockdowns for unvaccinated people.
