Parcours 50e New York Marathon

By Chris Dinsdale

November 7, 2021 - The 50th running of the New York City Marathon, and the concluding race of the six annual World Marathon Majors. The race starts in Staten Island and finishes in Central Park.

The New York City Marathon -- established in 1970 -- was held entirely within Central Park for the first six years. The first five-borough event, from Staten Island to Central Park, was held in 1976 to celebrate the United States’ bicentennial.

Traditionally, over 55,000 runners participate around the streets of New York, but 2021 will see an adjusted capacity of 33,000 mass athletes gather on the start line due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Olympic gold medalist Peres Jepchirchir (Kenya), Olympic silver medalist Abdi Nageeye (Netherlands), and four-time Olympic medalist Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia) will make their TCS New York City Marathon debuts.
