Parcours Chicago Marathon 2021

By Chris Dinsdale

October 10, 2021 - Home favourite Sara Hall is aiming to break the U.S. women’s record of 2:19:36, which has stood since 2006, at the Chicago Marathon.

The United States has produced only a single sub-2:20 female marathon runner to date, when Deena Kastor won the London Marathon in 2006 in a time of 2:19:36.

Since then 34 athletes – 26 of them from Kenya and Ethiopia – have recorded 59 performances faster than 2:20, but no other American woman has yet managed to cross the barrier.

Hall, 38, has publicly declared her intention to go for the U.S. record at this year’s Chicago Marathon. The course is a fast one – Brigid Kosgei of Kenya ran 2:14:04 here in 2019, setting a new world record.

The World Marathon Majors comprises six races globally: London, Boston, Berlin, Chicago, New York, with Tokyo promoted to major status most recently, in 2013.

2021 World Marathon Majors:

Sep 26: Berlin
Oct 3: London
Oct 10: Chicago
Oct 11: Boston
Oct 17: Tokyo
Nov 7: New York
