Russische pro-Poetin-partij wint meerderheid ondanks beschuldigingen van fraude

By Ninian Carter

September 20, 2021 - President Putin’s United Russia party has retained a clear majority in parliament despite falling support and claims of voter fraud.

Russia’s United Russia party, which supports President Vladimir Putin, has won a decisive majority in the country’s parliamentary elections, despite a fall in support.

Putin’s party claimed victory within hours of polls closing on Sunday evening, in an election which saw the president’s most vocal critics barred from even running.

With 99.7% of votes counted, the results show United Russia on nearly 50%, followed by nearest rival, the Communist Party on 19%.

Russia’s electoral commission has rejected claims of widespread voter fraud.
