TOKYO 2020

Parcours van Olympisch Snelwandelen

July 23, 2021 - August 8, 2021 - The 2020 summer Olympic Games, the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, take place in Tokyo, Japan. There are three race walking events in the current Olympic programme: a men’s and a women’s 20km walk, and a men’s 50km walk. All events will take place in the city of Sapporo, located 800km to the north of Tokyo.

Each race walker is scrutinised by judges positioned along the course, who carry warning paddles with symbols for “loss of contact” and “bent knee”. An athlete is disqualified if they receive a warning from three or more different judges.

Race walking is distinguished from running races in that one foot must always be in contact with the ground. In addition, the knee cannot be bent from the time the front foot comes into contact with the ground until the vertical upright position.
