April 8, 2021 - The number of billionaires worldwide grew to a record 2,755 in 2021, according to Forbes’ annual ranking – a roughly 30 percent jump from a year ago – despite the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
With a net worth of $177 billion, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos topped this year’s list for the fourth year in a row. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was in the second spot with $151 billion, up from 31st on the list last year. The remaining billionaires in the top five are Bernard Arnault (net worth of $150 billion), Bill Gates ($124 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($97 billion).
The combined wealth of the world’s billionaires as of March 2021 is $13.1 trillion, up from $8 trillion in March 2020.
