By Duncan Mil

December 17, 2020 - Barack Obama’s “A Promised Land” is well on its way to becoming the best-selling political memoir in modern times, with more than 3.3 million copies sold in the first month.

The former president’s memoir sold nearly 890,000 copies in the U.S. and Canada in its first 24 hours -- a first-day sales record for Penguin Random House.

“A Promised Land,” the first of two planned volumes, covers Obama’s election in 2008 and much of his first term.

Obama still has to catch up to his wife, Michelle Obama, whose “Becoming” has sold more than eight million copies in North America since coming out in 2018. “Becoming” is published by Crown Publishing.

First-week sales of “A Promised Land” hit 1.7 million eclipsing Bill Clinton’s “My Life” which moved one million copies and George W. Bush’s “Decision Points,” which sold 775,000 copies.
