Giro d’Italia 2020

By Ben Mullins

October 3, 2020 - October 25, 2020 - The 2020 edition of the Giro d’Italia was originally due to start in Hungary in May but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The rescheduled race will start with four stages in Sicily, beginning with a 15km individual time trial from Monreale to Palermo on Oct 3.

After the Sicilian stages, the race crosses to the mainland with legs in Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia before heading to more familiar ground in northern Italy.

The revised route will have an extra mountain-top finish in Stage 9 at Roccaraso. Also added to the course was a Stage 8 finish in the southern town of Matera, which is famous for its ancient cave dwellings.

The second and third weeks of the race are unchanged. After a brief detour into France and an alpine ascent to Sestriere in the penultimate stage, the race ends on Oct 25 with an individual time trial in Milan.
