Trump en Biden in drie debatten tegenover elkaar

By Jordi Bou

September 29, 2020 - U.S. President Donald Trump and former Vice-President Joe Biden will go head-to-head in three debates before the election on November 3. There is also one debate scheduled for their vice-presidential candidates, Mike Pence and Kamala Harris.

Unlike in years past, there is only one moderator in each debate, as the pandemic necessitates having as few people onstage as possible.

According to the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, the moderators will be Chris Wallace of Fox News for the Sep 29 debate in Cleveland, Steve Scully of C-SPAN for the Oct 15 debate in Miami and NBC’s Kristen Welker for the Oct 22 debate in Nashville, Tennessee.

USA Today’s Susan Page will moderate the vice presidential debate on Oct 7 in Salt Lake City with Vice President Mike Pence and Democrat Kamala Harris.

Presidential candidates are not allowed to veto moderators picked up by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

All debates are scheduled to take place from 21:00-22:30ET (02:00-03:30GMT) with no commercial interruptions.

An average of 74 million U.S. TV viewers watched the three matchups between Mr. Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016.
