Restant van orkaan Laura brengt dreiging van meerdre tornado's

By Ninian Carter

August 28, 2020 - Weakening Hurricane Laura, now a tropical depression, is moving eastwards across the United States, causing more weather problems.

Hurricane Laura has battered the U.S. state of Louisiana, killing at least six people.

Winds of up to 240km/h caused widespread damage, including power cuts to nearly a million homes, tearing windows out of skyscrapers and starting an industrial plant chemical fire.

Thankfully, a feared six metre storm surge was avoided when Laura tracked further east.

Laura has now been downgraded to a tropical depression and is set to barrel eastwards, bringing with it flash flooding and the threat of multiple tornadoes.

On the way to the U.S., Laura, and tropical storm Marco, swept across the Caribbean, killing 24 people.

Meanwhile, two more potential cyclones are brewing in the Atlantic Ocean as the U.S. braces for one of its worst hurricane seasons – the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts 25 named storms will reach north America this year.
