FIA zoekt races voor geldig wereldkampioenschap

By Chris Dinsdale

July 5, 2020 - September 6, 2020 - Facing the lowest number of races in a season since the 1980s, Formula 1 is adjusting to challenging times in an attempt to reboot a legitimate World Championship season. The 2020 season opener is now scheduled to be staged in Austria on July 5.

The Formula One World Championship, the premier class of motor racing, is organised by the governing body of international motorsport, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

FIA rules state that a minimum of eight races are needed to complete a valid championship, and they must take place on at least three different continents to meet the definition of a “world championship”.

Only eight Grands Prix have been confirmed, with Austria and Britain hosting two races each. Seven races have been cancelled, and the fate of nine others is still to be decided.
