Mondiale voedselcrises groeien

By Ninian Carter

April 27, 2020 - Volgens het Wereldvoedselprogramma verkeerden in 2019 zo’n 135 miljoen mensen in een voedselcrisis – een verhoging van 113 miljoen een jaar eerder.

The number of people battling acute hunger and suffering from malnutrition is on the rise, according to the 2020 Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) – and it may be underestimating the severity due to an inability to collate accurate data in some regions.

Additionally, the upheaval that has been set in motion by the Covid-19 pandemic may push even more communities into deeper distress.

At a time of global challenges, ranging from conflicts to climate shocks to economic instability, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, states that the world must redouble its efforts to defeat hunger and malnutrition – essential for achieving a more stable and resilient world.
