Voorstel vermindering steekincidenten in Engeland

February 18, 2019 - Daders van steekincidenten in London moeten na vrijlating een GPS-tracker
dragen om geweld in de Britse hoofdstad terug te dringen.

The London mayor, Sadiq Khan, announced the pilot on Monday (Feb 11) as part of a public health approach to tackle “unacceptably high” levels of violent crime in the city.

Offenders leaving prison for crimes such as knife possession, wounding and grievous bodily harm under the year-long plan, starting on February 18, will be required to wear tracking devices.

In February last year, London's monthly homicide rate briefly overtook New York's for the first time in modern history -- with the New York Police Department (NYPD) reporting 11 murders and the Metropolitan Police reporting 15.

However, homicide rates in the two cities, which have similar population sizes, ended the year with the NYPD reporting 289 murders and the Met investigating 263 homicides.
