November 6, 2018 -- Democraten behaalden meerderheid in Huis van Afgevaardigden. De Democraten zouden nu stappen kunnen ondernemen tegen de door schandalen achtervolgde president Donald Trump en zijn beleid.
In midterm elections, Republicans expanded their majority in the U.S. Senate following a divisive campaign marked by fierce clashes over race and immigration.
All 435 seats in the House, 35 seats in the 100-member Senate and 36 of the 50 state governorships were up for grabs.
One senate seat will remain unfilled following the election -- on November 27, Mississippi voters will either re-elect Republican U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, the incumbent, or Mike Espy, a Democrat, in a special runoff election to determine who will fill the seat vacated by the retirement of Sen. Thad Cochran earlier this year.
