Liberalen krijgen zetje van Trump in peilingen Canada
April 8, 2025 - Installing Mark Carney as leader – and U.S. President Trump’s threats to Canadian sovereignty – have revitalised a Liberal Party that was heading for election defeat just weeks ago under Justin Trudeau.
The Liberals are now heavily favoured to win an outright majority in the Federal elections which will take place on April 28, having been over 20 points behind in the polls as recently as January.
However, when Trump began imposed punitive tariffs on Canada, threatening the economy, and suggested the country should become the 51st state of the U.S., Canadians rallied to the man they felt would best stand up to American threats, former Bank of England governor Carney.
