July 26, 2024 - August 11, 2024 - The 2024 summer Olympic Games, the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, take place in Paris, France.

Athens, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games hosted the first revival in the modern era, with 241 athletes from 14 nations contesting 43 events. To the great joy of the 100,000 spectators Greek athlete Spyridon Louis won the marathon, for which he received, like all first place winners, a silver medal, an olive branch and a diploma.

This is the third time that Paris has hosted the Summer Olympic Games, the first being in 1900, and again in 1924. London is the only other city to have hosted the Games three times, in 1908, 1948, and 2012. Athens played host for a second time in 2004, with Paris and Los Angeles also having hosted two Summer Games.

France has also hosted the Winter Olympics three times, at Chamonix in 1928, Grenoble in 1968 and Albertville in 1992.
