By Jordi Bou

According to estimates by the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, more than 3.5 million hectares of land have burned as of June 7, and almost on par with the entirety of the 2017 fire season.

Blazes are burning in nearly all Canadian provinces and territories, and federal government officials said their modelling shows increased wildfire risk in most of Canada through August.

Wildfires, the second most expensive disaster in Canada after flooding, have destroyed homes, impacted oil and gas production in Alberta, and polluted the air in both in Canada and the U.S.
