Hamas and Hezbollah leaders killed by Israel since Oct 7

By Jordi Bou

October 18, 2024 - Death of Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the Oct 7, 2023, attack, is the latest in a series of killings of senior Hamas and Hezbollah leaders since that assault and the beginning of the war in Gaza.

Western leaders said the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar offered an opportunity for the conflict to end, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war would go on until the hostages seized by Hamas militants were returned.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group said it is moving to a new and escalating phase in its war against Israel while Iran said “the spirit of resistance will be strengthened"” after the killing of Sinwar.

Sinwar's killing comes after Hamas's political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in July. Sinwar was subsequently named as Hamas's overall leader, assuming Haniyeh's role as well.
