Agenda Mundial Diciembre 2024

By Jordi Bou

Dec 2, U.S.: California Governor Gavin Newsom, a fierce critic of President-elect Donald Trump, will
convene a special session of the legislature to safeguard the state’s progressive policies ahead of the new presidency.

Dec 4, India: The Proba-3, a European Space Agency (ESA) mission is scheduled to launch on board a PSLV-XL rocket from the country's spaceport in Sriharikota. It will create an artificial solar eclipse in space to study the sun.

Dec 8, France: Paris’ Notre-Dame Cathedral reopens its doors after a five-year restoration that followed a devastating fire in 2019.

Dec 8, Romania: Far-right, pro-Russia candidate Calin Georgescu and centre-right Elena Lasconi are expected to face each other in a presidential run-off vote. A victory for Georgescu could throw the country’s staunchly pro-Ukraine stance into doubt.

Dec 9, Netherlands: Controls on borders are set to be imposed as part of a wider crackdown on migration proposed by the right-wing coalition led by the anti-Muslim PVV party of Geert Wilders.

Dec 16, Germany: Chancellor Olaf Scholz to hold a confidence vote in parliament which would pave the way for snap elections in February, following the collapse of his fractious three-way coalition.

Dec 20, France: A verdict is expected in the mass rape trial that has shocked the nation. Dominique Pelicot has admitted drugging his ex-wife Gisèle, raping her and inviting dozens of men to also abuse her. He will be sentenced alongside any other defendants found guilty.

Dec 25, U.S.: Robert Eggers’ remake of Nosferatu, the classic vampire made famous in F.W. Murnau’s 1922 film, is released. A cast including Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp and Nicholas Hoult promises to blend artful horror with a modern twist.
