2024 está por convertirse en el primer año 1,5°C sobre los niveles preindustriales

By Ninian Carter

November 7, 2024 - Según el Servicio sobre Cambio Climático Copernicus de la UE, 2023 fue 1,48°C más cálido que los niveles preindustriales por lo que es casi seguro que en 2024 se superen los 1,5°C.

After 10 months of 2024, it’s now almost certain that the year will be the warmest on record and the first that’s warmer by more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900).

October 2024 was the second-warmest October globally, after 2023, with an average surface air temperature of 15.25°C, 0.80°C above the 1991-2020 average for October, according to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.

It was also 1.65°C above the pre-industrial level and was the 15th month in a 16-month period for which the global-average surface air temperature exceeded 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Given that 2023 was 1.48°C above the pre-industrial level, it is virtually certain that the annual temperature for 2024 will be more than 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level – likely more than 1.55°C above.

This marks a depressing new milestone in global temperature records that will be an urgent talking point at the upcoming Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, 2024.
