Artistas que se oponen a que Trump use su música en mitines

August 16, 2024 - Crece el número de músicos que se oponen a que Donald Trump use sus canciones en mitines de campaña, siendo la más recienteen la lista la superestrella Celine Dion.

Over recent years, many popular musicians have objected to Donald Trump using their songs at campaign events, with superstar diva Celine Dion being the latest one.

Following the broadcast of a video of her performing the mega-hit “My Heart Will Go On” at a Trump campaign rally in Montana last weekend, her representatives swiftly declared it was unauthorised and mocked its use at all – the song is from James Cameron’s “Titanic” movie about the ill-fated voyage of the famous ocean liner which hit an iceberg and sank in 1912.

Dion joins a stellar line-up of musicians, who have decried the use of their music by Trump and his campaign team, including:

• Adele
• The Beatles
• Bruce Springsteen
• Eddy Grant
• Guns N’ Roses
• John Fogerty (of Creedence Clearwater Revival)
• Neil Young
• Pharrell Williams
• Phil Collins
• Panic! at the Disco
• Rihanna
• R.E.M.
• The Rolling Stones
• The Smiths

And the estates of deceased musicians:

• Isaac Hayes
• Leonard Cohen
• Prince
• Tom Petty

In reality, artists rarely have authority over where, when or how their music is played as control is handled by performing rights organisations that require political campaigns to obtain licenses to allow them to use material.

Once played at a rally, a musician can object to its use, and the song is then pulled from the license – however, not every campaign immediately honours those requests.
