El alza del precio del oro da mayor valor a las medallas olímpicas

By Ninian Carter

August 12, 2024 - Con el precio del oro en un máximo récord, las medallas de oro olímpicas valen más hoy en día que nunca antes– unos $900 cada una, en términos de materias primas.

The value of gold soared in mid-July to a record high, with gold-medal-winning Olympians benefiting from the rally and increasingly weighty medals.

The price of silver, which makes up around 93% of the mass of a gold medal, is also substantially higher in 2024.

Gold medals contain six grams of the precious metal, making them worth about $900 each, in terms of raw materials.

In reality, Olympic gold medals are worth considerably more than the sum of their metal parts, with this year’s Paris Olympic medals also containing a small piece of the Eiffel Tower.

In 2013, one of Jesse Owens’ gold medals from the 1936 Berlin Olympics sold at auction for almost $1.5 million.
