Iran’s hardliner President Ebrahim Raisi was killed on Sunday after his helicopter crashed during poor weather in mountains near the Azerbaijan border.
Following an overnight search, the charred wreckage of the U.S.-made Bell 212 helicopter, which had been carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew, was found early on Monday.
The crash comes amid growing dissent within Iran over a number of political and social crises.
