Recuperación de utilidades operativas de Samsung

By Duncan Mil

April 5, 2024 - Las utilidades de Samsung Electronics se recuperaron agudamente en el primer trimestre de 2024, reflejando un giro en la división esencial de fabricación de chips de la compañía y ventas robustas de smartphones.

The world’s biggest maker of memory chips announced that it expects operating profit to have reached 6.56 trillion won (US$4.89 billion) in the January to March period, up 931.3% from the same quarter last year. Revenue, meanwhile, rose by 11.4% to 71 trillion won.

“Chip production reduction was the right move and Samsung is now on its path to benefit from the AI trend in both semiconductors and smartphones,” said Tom Kang, research director at Counterpoint Research.

Analysts say Samsung is recovering from a long slump in the highly cyclical semiconductor sector. The company is showing improvements in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are critical for artificial intelligence computing.

The company said its HBM sales rose by more than 40% in the December quarter and that memory demand showed signs of recovery.

Samsung will release its total earnings, including net profit and business sector results, on April 30.
