Huawei vende más que iPhone en China

By Duncan Mil

According to the report, Huawei, the U.S. tech giant’s chief competitor in China in premium smartphones, saw unit sales rise by 64% in the period.

The figures also show the world’s largest smartphone market shrank by 7% in the first weeks of this year, and the top share went to Dongguan-based Vivo, which targeted the budget segment.

Counterpoint’s report said Apple’s market share dropped to 15.7%, putting it in fourth place, compared with second place in the year-ago period when it had 19% market share.

Huawei rose to second place as its market share expanded to 16.5% from 9.4% a year earlier.

Facing U.S. sanctions, Huawei’s Mate 60 Pro should not contain components sourced from overseas, but the phone runs SK Hynix’s LPDDR5 and NAND flash memory.

Canadian firm TechInsights tore down a Mate 60 Pro and found the SK Hynix parts.

“SK Hynix no longer does business with Huawei,” SK Hynix told The Korea Times. “Also, SK Hynix is strictly abiding by the U.S. government’s export restrictions,” the company said.
