By Ninian Carter

December 15, 2023 - Datos del Comité para la Protección de los Periodistas muestran que 81 periodistasy empleados de los medios fueron asesinados en 2023, en comparación con 68el año previo, siendo la guerra Israel-Gaza la causante de 63 de las muertes.

The latest 2023 data from a leading organisation that promotes press freedom highlights the severe dangers facing journalists around the world, and in particular, from the hazards of the Israel-Gaza war.

As of December 14, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) says 63 journalists and media workers have been killed since the war began on October 7 – a day when six journalists died.

So far this year, 81 journalists and media workers have been killed worldwide, with 65 unaccounted for and a further 363 imprisoned – last year 68 journalists were killed.

In fact, more journalists were killed in the first month of the Israel-Gaza war than in any other similar period of conflict since the CPJ began recording such deaths in 1992.

As of December 14, 2023, the Israel-Gaza war tally on journalists stands at:

DEAD: 56 Palestinian, 4 Israeli, and 3 Lebanese
INJURED: 11
MISSING: 2
ARRESTED: 19

It is worth bearing in mind that the data shows only confirmed accounts and that the figures are likely to rise as the CPJ continues to investigate reports.
