The 2024 presidential election is now less than a year away -- and the economy will be a top issue for most Americans.
Trump’s presidency significantly impacted, from tax reforms to trade policies. Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 aimed to stimulate economic growth by reducing corporate tax rates and providing tax relief for individuals. However, critics argue that the wealthy and corporations disproportionately gained from Trump’s tax cuts. At the same time, the middle class received comparatively modest reductions.
“Government policy in recent decades has lifted many out of poverty and provided large tax cuts to the rich. The middle class has lost out,” Isabel Sawhill and Christopher Pulliam wrote for Brookings then.
Fighting global warming has been one of Biden’s most thriving areas. The Inflation Reduction Act includes nearly $375 billion for climate change, much of it going toward financial incentives for electric cars, clean energy and other initiatives.
But the U.S. is not yet on track to meet Biden’s ambitious target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, according to independent analysts. And there’s a lot of work ahead to ensure new programmes reach their potential.
