El líder de Proud Boys es sentenciado a 22 años en prisión por el ataque al Capitolio de EUA
September 1, 2023 - El exlíder de Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, ha sido sentenciado a 22 años enprisión por orquestar el ataque en el Capitolio de EUA el 6 de enero de2021 – la sentencia más larga impuesta hasta ahora en el caso.
A federal judge sentenced former far-right Proud Boys leaders Joseph Biggs to 17 years in prison and his co-defendant Zachary Rehl to 15 years.
Biggs and Rehl are the first Proud Boys convicted of seditious conspiracy to be sentenced for their roles in the Jan 6, 2021, attack.
The sentences kicked off a series of hearings scheduled for this week and next at which punishment will be meted out against the former chairman of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, and two other members of the group who were convicted of sedition and other serious crimes at a landmark conspiracy trial this spring.
To date, former Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes holds the record with an 18-year sentence, after he was convicted of seditious conspiracy earlier this year.
More than 1,100 people have been arrested on charges related to the Capitol assault. Of those, 597 defendants have had their cases adjudicated and received sentences. About 366 individuals have been sentenced to periods of incarceration.
