El supertifón Saola causará estragos este fin de semana

By Ninian Carter

September 1, 2023 - China y Hong Kong se están preparando para la llegada del supertifón
Saola, que avanza hacia el territorio continental con vientos que
alcanzan velocidades de hasta 220 kilómetros por hora.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled in China and Hong Kong as Super Typhoon Saola stampedes toward the mainland – forcing the closure of businesses, schools and financial markets.

The tropical cyclone is packing wind speeds of up to 220km/h as it approaches eastern Guangdong, the province encompassing Hong Kong – making it one of the most dangerous typhoons to hit the region since 1949.

However, Soala is not alone, with two other cyclones bringing up the rear. Haikui is already labelled a typhoon, while Kirogi, the one furthest away from land, is classified as a tropical storm, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

It's expected that Super Typhoon Saola will make landfall on Friday night or Saturday morning, with Haikui hitting Taiwan on Sunday and China on Monday.
