Tiroteos masivos en EUA matan a 7 personas y lesionan a 73 el fin de semana
June 19, 2023 - A spate of mass shootings in the U.S. over the weekend killed at least seven people, including a police officer, and injured 73 others.
A series of weekend mass shootings across the U.S. killed at least seven people, including a Pennsylvania state trooper.
In one incident in a suburban Chicago car park on Sunday morning, 23 people were shot, one fatally.
According to the Gun Violence Archive website and reports from the Associated Press, from June 17-18, 7 people were shot dead in the U.S., and 73 others were injured.
The shootings continue an alarming trend across the United States, that has seen homicides and violence increase since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Researchers cannot agree on the cause of the rise, but theories suggest the violence is driven by the sheer number of guns in America, by a lack of aggressive police tactics, and a decline in prosecutions for misdemeanour weapon offences.
Daniel Nagin, professor of public policy and statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, says: “There’s no question there’s been a spike in violence. Some of these cases seem to be just disputes, often among adolescents, and those disputes are played out with firearms, not with fists.”
