In Russia, the State trial of hypersonic missile physicist Anatoly Maslov, suspected of handing secrets to China, begins in St. Petersburg. Two of his colleagues from the Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in the city of Novosibirsk, Siberia, are also accused. Their colleagues have warned that the prosecutions could irrevocably damage Russian science. Maslov, 76, who has maintained his innocence, has been denied access to his usual medications while in detention.
Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the town of Shebekino near Belgorod, Russia after Russian anti-Putin partisans are reported to have attacked with Grad 122mm rockets. A cross-border incursion by the far-right Russian Volunteer Corps was allegedly repelled by Russian border forces.
