EUA anticipa aumento en los cruces de migrantes desde México

By Ninian Carter

May 12, 2023 - Miles de migrantes esperan cruzar a EUA desde México en medio de laconfusión que sigue a la expiración de la política Título 42 de la era de Trump, que permitía la expulsión expedita de migrantes ilegales.

The U.S. Border Patrol, local authorities and humanitarian organisations are bracing themselves for what could become a difficult-to-manage rise in attempted crossings from Mexico.

The expected influx follows the ending on May 11 of a Trump-era policy known as “Title 42” – a law brought about during the Covid-19 pandemic that immediately expelled migrants without providing asylum hearings.

Tens of thousands of migrants have hurried to the U.S.-Mexico border, confused by rumours and misinformation as to what the immigration law change could mean.

“Title 8” will replace Title 42 – a policy that allows migrants once again to apply for legal pathways to enter the United States, but could also bring harsher consequences for those crossing illegally, who may be deported and barred from the United States for five years.

Homeland Security predicts 10,000 migrants per day will try to cross into the U.S., now that Title 42 has been lifted.
