The missiles were fired from North Hwanghae province on Monday and flew about 370 kilometres, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
Both missiles appear to have landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone, the Japanese government said.
Monday’s launches came as the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and ships from its accompanying strike group are scheduled to dock at a South Korean naval base in the port city of Busan on Tuesday, Reuters said.
Kim Jong Un’s regime has not commented on the launch, but its propaganda apparatus has been trumpeting recent tests of weapons it says will “strike fear into the enemies.” North Korea has been seeking new ways to deliver nuclear attacks on the U.S. and its two most important allies in Asia, South Korea and Japan, according to Bloomberg.
