ONU advierte sobre riesgo de escasez mundial de agua

By Duncan Mil

March 23, 2023 - El sobreconsumo de agua lleva al mundo a una crisis de escasez. Naciones Unidas advierte que el uso no sostenible del agua amenaza
el objetivo de “acceso al agua y sanidad para todos para 2030”.

According to a new report issued to coincide with the first UN conference on water security in 45 years, the host of the summit Usha Rao-Monari, stated: “There is enough water on the planet if we manage it more effectively than we have managed it over the last few decades.”

“I think we will have to find new governance models, new finance models, new models of using water and reusing water than ever before. I think that technology and innovation will play a very large role in looking at how to manage the water sector and the use of water,” she continued.

Of hundreds of action plans sent to the UN before the conference started, the World Resources Institute research group singled out two projects for praise. One to spend $21.2 million through 2029 on “climate-smart” agriculture and wetland restoration in the Niger River basin, and another from 1,729 companies that calculate they can make water-related investments worth $436 billion.

The report stressed that water is a human right and should be shared fairly.
