El letal retorno de la Tormenta Tropical Freddy

By Ninian Carter

March 14, 2023 - La tormenta tropical Freddy, el ciclón tropical de mayor duración en la historia registrada, ha azotado el sur de África por segunda vez en un mes cobrando más de 200 vidas.

Mozambique and Malawi are the latest casualties of Tropical Storm Freddy, which has made landfall for a second time in southern Africa.

More than 100 people were killed, and many more injured, in the latest strike, which ripped roofs off buildings, brought widespread flooding and triggered landslides.

Freddy is one of the fiercest storms recorded in the southern hemisphere and may be the longest-lasting tropical cyclone in history.

The total number killed by the storm in Mozambique, Malawi and Madagascar, since it first made landfall in February, currently stands at around 136.

Scientists believe climate change is making tropical storms stronger, as warmer oceans evaporate more heat energy into the atmosphere.
