March 6, 2023 - Funcionarios bangladesíes investigan la causa de un incendio devastador en un campamento de refugiados rohingyas que destruyó 2.000 refugios y dejó sin techo a 12.000 personas.

A blaze at a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh has destroyed 2,000 bamboo-and-tarpaulin shelters, leaving 12,000 people displaced. There are no reported deaths.

The blaze began at Camp 11 in Cox’s Bazar, a southeastern coastal district where more than a million Rohingya refugees live, spreading quickly through gas cylinders in kitchens.

Most of the residents, who predominantly follow Islam, fled a brutal military crackdown in Myanmar in 2017 after Rohingya insurgents launched attacks against police. Conditions there have only worsened since a military takeover in 2021.

Local media reports one man has been arrested in connection with a police investigation treating the fire as an act of sabotage.
