The head of Russia’s Wagner Group has warned that his troops are being deprived of ammunition and, if forced to retreat from Bakhmut, the entire Russian frontline could collapse.
Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu has called for the capture of Vuhledar “at any cost” but catastrophic manpower losses have stalled the Russian offensive.
Even if Russian forces succeed in capturing Bakhmut they are likely to struggle with personnel and equipment constraints from that point, and combined with the stalled Russian offensives on Vuhledar and Luhansk Oblast, seem to be improving conditions for a future Ukrainian counteroffensive.
